Get firmware updates Sony PS3 and PSP

Sony has announced that both its consoles will get a software update in this week. The PS3 firmware will be bumped to v3.41 and will add recommendations to games and videos on the PlayStation Store. A new “You May Like” tab will appear for users that will include items based on the purchases of other PSN users.

Moreover, PSP will also get a minor firmware update. The new update v6.31 will improve system software stability when certain PSP titles are used.

Ps3 Firmware 3.41 feature though, IMO, is the addition of automatic downloading of updates and firmware for your games. With this the PlayStation 3 Update 3.41 can wake up from standby, download all updates for your games, and go back to sleep. For me personally, I’m constantly annoyed by the slow and frequent updates to the PlayStation 3 titles and system. I’m not sure it’s worth the $50 a year, but it’s tempting.

Whether or not Sony actually “required” users to update is difficult to prove. However, it’s true that enough complaints were listed on the PlayStation Blog to prompt Sony to create a “Firmware 3.40 Q&A.” On top of this, when Sony announced the v3.41 update on June 27, the company claimed the optional would improve “system stability during use of some PlayStation 3 format software.”

Adding a few new features to PlayStation 3 (PS3) via the latest system software update, which is a mandatory update 3.41 and will be available shortly. Most notably, you’ll see some new sorting options within Trophies that make it easier to claim bragging rights among your friends on PlayStation Network.”
